Homeschool History Class - Take Two

Wednesday, February 18, 2009

Last month we tried to take a class ("Roots") at the local historic museum - the one that was canceled and led to this day.

This month, we were signed up already - so I tried again. I must admit...it was awesome.

The class was entitled "We the People" and was about the US Government. B10 and CW memorized the preamble to the Constitution (with hand motions).

There were also stove pipe hats and all sorts of crafts. They focused on the three branches and what each one did, even going as far as to choose laws they wanted passed - and then attempting to pass them (with each Caterpillar being a different branch of government).

Their teacher (Miss Alisha) was amazing! She was young and energetic - and thought they were just the cat's pajamas (a feeling that was quite mutual). We can't wait to see her again next month for "Trial by Jury". They'll actually get to argue a case in the old historic courtroom!

Yet another reason I love my county!

This looks like they had a lot of fun AND learned something. What a cool resource for homeschool kids...you would think more people would take advantage of it!
