Spring Break Fun - Day 1

Wednesday, April 7, 2010

Since we weren't able to go camping, Queen and I decided to have a "fun day" today.  We started with an early morning at Chuck-E-Cheese.

Everyone got 40 tokens (and GO got 10) - and spent the morning playing games and eating pizza.

Princess was allowed to "help" GO use her tokens - she did a GREAT job of helping!  She is such a good "big sister"!

Then we headed to the playground to play for an hour.  It was mighty hot outside, but the kids love it.

Our final destination was the local mall to see "How to Train Your Dragon".  CC met us there, and Princess Flower came to see the movie with us.  It's a GREAT movie - I highly recommend for adults and kids alike.  It reminded me of "Monsters, Inc."...a movie that is kind of scary the first time, but then even younger kids (like Brother Sheep's age), would enjoy it over and over again.

It was such a pretty day - my only sadness was that infernal pollen count!

Making Soap

Thursday, November 12, 2009

Princess Flower has come to spend the night with us, and I had talked to her Mum (Aunt CC) about a special Science Project.

I decided to let the Caterpillars and Princess Flower help me make our own homemade laundry detergent.  I found the recipe online and it seemed pretty simple.  After doing it - I can tell you - if this works, it was so easy that I'll never buy laundry detergent again.

The recipe is easy: 1 bar of soap (I used Ivory), 2 cups Baking Soda, 2 gallons of water, plus 12-15 drops of essential oil (optional)

First, the kids had to shred the soap.

I will be purchasing a cheap grater just for this purpose, assuming it works.

Then, we placed the soap in a pot and covered it with a bit of water.  The heat is suppose to melt the soap.  The directions say this will take a while, but anyone who uses Ivory knows - it basically melts in ANY water, so it didn't take very long at all.

After that, the kids took turns putting in the rest of the water and the baking soda.

To store the laundry detergent, I am using large Cat Litter containers.  These are easy to clean and are unscented, so they won't affect the detergent.

Plus, this way I was able to let the kids decorate the containers (so I could tell them apart, Princess Flower's Mum - Aunt CC - requested a different scent).  I wrote the directions on the side.

I mean, where else can you get laundry detergent decorated with a laser battle?  That, my friends, is truly unique!

The cost is amazing -  it cost me $1.06 to make the entire container ($2.13 between us).  That's less than $0.02 per load.  Purex (for HE washers) cost me $0.18 per load.  AND this took less than 15 minutes of my time.  I did scent the detergent, but only because I had essential oils in the house (I won them in a raffle basket from Whole Foods).  It smelled just fine without the oils, but it was a nice touch to add lavender to mine and lemon citrus to Aunt CC's.

I'll post an update as soon as I've done a load of clothes.

Labor Day Saturday

Saturday, September 5, 2009

For Labor Day Weekend, we drove down to Hubby's parents lakehouse. All three of his brothers and their families were there. We came just for Saturday - and brought Queen, Prince and Princess with us. We all had a great time!

The dock was covered with people.

GO hanging out with Aunt Happy One.
Prince giving me a big smile from the water.

Fishing with fake poles.
B10 took one of the kayaks out. I was surprised by how long he played in it, paddling by himself the entire time.

CW didn't play in the kayak as much, but he loved the paddleboat.

The lake was full of family! Two kayaks, the paddleboat, lots of floaties, plus people in regular life jackets.

CW giving me a big smile from the water.

GO wore her swimsuit, but both of us pretty much stayed out of the water. (It was MUCH colder than it had been on the 4th of July.)

One of the highlights of the lake house is the boat. The girls (Princess Flower, Princess of the Royal Family and Ladybug) got to ride in the tube first.

Here are the boys, waiting for their turn in the tube.

When it was the boys turn, they were brave (or silly!) and stuck their hands in the air. I can tell you that CW and Prince DID NOT ride that way for long... B10 was the daredevil of the group.

Queen and Hubby decided to take a turn in the tube!

Before we had to leave, there was the cousins picture. Being on the boat was a great idea - though the execution was a bit hard with two littler ones and a hurt Butterfly.

GO was about done with pictures at this point... Look at her poor little face.
This is my favorite cousin picture, mostly because of Princess Flower, GO and B10. I just love the looks on B10 and Princess Flower's faces and how GO is off in her own little world.

Garden Girls and Geocaching (Part Deux)

Garden Mum and I took the four littlest ones geocaching again - trying to get in as much as possible before she moves to North Carolina.

We found some tiny ones and some big ones.
We even stopped at the Cutie and grabbed some yummies!

I LOVE geocaching with friends. It would be perfect if we could get BooSheep to come out with us one day!

The Garden Girls came to church with us (along with the Game Family) today. When we got back to our house to eat lunch, we realized the three older kids were all matching!

Garden Mum and I just had to get photos of B10, Princess Flower and CW together.

It's hard to believe they don't share any DNA!

We've been introducing the Garden Girls to geocaching and today Garden Mum and I took all 7 kids out.

It was such a blast to watch the Caterpillars and Princess Flower find some on their own!

At the end, it was really hot...but Happy Hour at Sonic, so we stopped by to grab drinks for everyone.

GO slept most of the time. But we'll have her excited about geocaching, yet! (She does love the "nature" part!)

We took Aunt CC, Uncle Marine and all four Garden Girls out geocaching today to teach them the sport.

We had a BLAST and Aunt CC made her first very own find (right under Hubby's nose).

YAY for more family members who love geocaching.
