Savannah - Day Two

The view of our campsite this morning was beautiful!

We woke up and made breakfast: snasage, bananas, bread and cereal. The Caterpillars enjoyed a bit of running around (wearing their helmets..."just in case there is an angry snake in a tree that falls on our heads").

We cleaned up the campsite, while GO sat in her swing and observed the "nature".

After letting go of the critters that had been caught, we got in the truck and left.
We drove towards Tybee Island and stopped at Fort Pulaski on the way. Ft. Pulaski is unique in that General Robert E. Lee (when at West Point) was actually trained as an engineer and had a hand in planning the fort, not even imagining that one day he would be called to defend it during the Civil War.

We just happened to arrive in time for the cannon firing renactment (with the actually firing of cannons)! After hearing two, I find it hard to believe that any soldier made it out of the Civil War with their hearing intact.

After the renactment, we came back to the Main Visitor Center, where a sweet park ranger named "Phay" asked the Caterpillars if they would like to earn the Fort Pulaski Jr. Park Ranger Badge. She spent almost 45 minutes working with them and checking their assignments, before awarding them their badges. It was one of my favorite parts of the day!

Near Fort Pulaski is the John Wesley Monument, marking where he came to America and preached. It was a pretty half-mile walk through a canopy of trees.

Lunch today was at the Tybee Island Crab Shack. It was as much as a novelty as a resturant, considering after the meal the Caterpillars were able to feed "Gator Treats" to the pit of alligators!

They had cane fishing poles to put the treats on, then you dangle them into the pit.

Our afternoon was spent driving around the area. We stopped on our driving tour of Savannah for a quick pick-me-up of Frosties and Fries!
Back at Skidaway Island we went to the long trail to take a family hike.

On the 3.5 mile trail, there was an observation deck. The beautiful view was admired by Hubby and I, while the Caterpillars enjoyed catching the hundreds of small crabs that scurried about beneath the trail bridge.

CW picked up a brochure and we stopped at each point to identify the trees and plants on the trail. CW liked touching the different barks.

We headed back to the campsite for dinner (hamburger soup) and B10 managed to find even more critters, before his shower and bedtime.

...Searching for Adventure!

It's time for a family vacation! Hubby got TWO days off of work (a huge feat right now), so we drove to Savannah for the weekend. We took the pop-up camper to Skidaway Island State Park for a four day adventure.

We packed the car on Thursday night and left EARLY Friday morning to try and beat traffic out of the city. Hubby had to pump up the tires on the pop-up.

We arrived at Skidaway Island before lunch and the Caterpillars helped to set up the pop-up (very enthusiastically).

Well, GO watched and "supervised".

After we got the camper set-up, we took a tour of the island and found a place for lunch called The Omelet House.

With a bit of free time, before our big event out, the Caterpillars had a blast playing around the campsite (it's HUGE - almost three times the size of the campsite we had over Thanksgiving).

B10 has been saving his money since Christmas, and today he took us out to the movies in downtown Savannah. We all went to see Star Trek (bar none, my favorite movie ever - it was amazing and I predict will break all sorts of movie records and totally revive the Star Trek World). We helped him pay for the popcorn/Cokes, but he was very proud to be able to pay for the tickets, himself.

I had put pot roast into the crock pot before we left, so we headed back to Skidaway Island for a short hike (Sandpiper Trail - 0.9 mile long), then to our campsite for dinner.

Everyone but GO took a shower, and CW had picked out Stuart Little 2 to watch on my DVD player. GO fell asleep quickly (and slept for 8 hours!), while B10 and CW watched the movie before falling asleep.

Before jammies and after jammies!

It was a good day and a good night.

GO put on her first 0-3 month outfit this weekend. It's still a little "big", but at least it isn't falling off.

Now we can finally move into her next set of clothes (she's still wearing some of the newborn outfits), and maybe someday she'll be in the clothes we have still packed up in boxes!

We had a very long day today, poor little GO was wiped out when she finally hit the swing to go to sleep.

She slept in this position for hours!

Prayerfelt Sign

Hubby and I have been discussing and praying for a while about the future of my schooling and what I would do with my degree(s) once I was done.

Within the last couple of weeks, we've decided to begin looking into certain paths and started doing research into those paths. There are several major "hurdles" that would need to be jumped in order to move forward.

This evening Hubby and I were sitting on the bed, both on our computers, when we discovered that the largest "hurdle" - the one that has been standing in the way for years - isn't. It was a totally unexpected opening of a previously closed (and locked) door.

Please keep us in your prayers as we continue to investigate the future.

B10 got to Cub Scouts early and found a cute little Peeper.

I love when he gets excited about bugs and frogs! It really excites me about his future!

Family Wedding

One of Hubby's Cousins got married today. I was lucky enough to go to Lyn's wedding shower a few weeks ago and the entire family went to the wedding today.

GO did wonderfully during the ceremony. The harp music put her to sleep and she stayed that was until we got to Hubby's Dee's house for the reception.

The Caterpillars enjoyed playing with their cousins (Dabba Do and MoRo). Aunt Happy One (and Uncle Firefighter) were glad to see all the Caterpillars and hold GO for a bit.

Grandpa R enjoyed holding her, too.

We were glad to live close enough to be able to drive up and back in one day for the wedding and reception. I was so happy to meet Lyn when she came over for Christmas (and again - I'm telling you her brownies are AWESOME!). I look forward to many more holidays.
